Urban Typography

From the age of the neon-lit Nathan Road, typography and signage has shaped the collective memories of those who visit Hong Kong. Although building signage may seem mundane to most, its scale, font and typographical style varies drastically across different programmes - creating a natural tension with the human scale.

Within this photo essay, we set out to explore, study, document and archive the interplay between the city’s inhabitants and its text.
